MEMBERSHIP

Complete the corresponding requirements for your selected membership in order to be an active member in PDS.

All active members are placed on two lists that are sent to the LSUSD at the end of the year.

Points are due by May 31, 2025.

CAN'T MAKE AN EVENT?

A maximum of 3 filler points are offered throughout the year to make up for any missing membership requirement points. These points fill in for everything EXCEPT shadowing hours, volunteer hours and spring fundraiser participation.

DUES

Each member must submit a one-time payment of $20 by cash or $21 by card. Dues can also be submitted through Venmo (@LSUPreDental).

Payment by Venmo is $20 and must include the following description: Membership Dues + [first and last name]

SHADOWING

Download a shadowing form and submit a picture of the signed form via Flare. Make sure that the form is signed by the dentist or hygienist you shadowed.

If you need help finding a dentist to shadow, feel free to refer to our shadowing database.

SHADOWING FOR THE FIRST TIME?

Call or email the office you are interested in shadowing. Explain to them that you are a student and a member of PDS with interests in dentistry/hygiene.
State your availability and schedule a shadowing time that works best. It is not the office's responsibility to schedule a time for you.
Be timely and respectful.
Wear appropriate attire. Scrubs are recommended unless the particular office states otherwise.

SOCIAL EVENTS

Each member must attend at least one social event per semester. Social events serve as a way for members to congregate and establish companionship.

Event dates and times can be found on our online calendar and through emails as they are planned. Members may RSVP using links attached in the emails. Like the meetings, attendance will be accounted for via Flare.

MEETINGS

Attendance will be recorded at the end of each meeting via Flare.

As you leave, your meeting ticket will be scanned by a member of exec. You will not receive a point for attending a meeting unless your ticket is scanned.

SERVICE

Members must seek out service opportunities within the community.

All of the PDS-affiliated service opportunities will be emailed to those on the email list by our Service Coordinator. However, only some non-PDS affiliated community service opportunities may be promoted by PDS.

Download a service form and submit a picture of the signed form via Flare. Make sure that the form is signed by an event manager. Members must also email a time-stamped picture to pdslsuservice@gmail.com with the following subject line: "Service Photo + [first and last name]

FUNDRAISING

Restaurant Fundraisers

Each member must attend at least one restaurant fundraiser per semester. In order to fulfill the point requirement, members must mention PDS when ordering which allows for a percentage of the restaurant's earnings to support Smile Train. Event dates and times can be found on our online calendar and through emails as they are planned.

Submit a selfie with the receipt and a time stamp via Flare for proper documentation.

Spring Fundraisers

In order to attain membership, each member must participate in monetary and voluntary action for our spring fundraiser event. The 2025 spring fundraiser event will be determined in the near future.
